CLUB MISSION
SAYSA is a nonprofit
private soccer club formed in 1996 for the purpose of promoting soccer to the
residents of the Shenango Valley area of Mercer county, PA. This mission
includes:
-
promoting a soccer
culture to the youth and parents of the area
-
development of player
skills and tactics
-
education and
training of soccer coaches
-
education and
training of soccer referees
-
developing soccer
facilities for recreation, practice, and competition
-
developing future
leadership in our soccer community
-
building a unified soccer community,
pooling valuable resources of coaches, facilities, and leadership
-
building a stable soccer base in each
community of the Shenango Valley
"We're all in
this together."
SAYSA's guiding
principle has been to elevate the level of soccer in ALL of the
valley's communities by utilizing the combined knowledge and talents of all of
the area's soccer coaches and referees, and progressive age appropriate child
focused training programs.
How to use
this website:
This website is
intended to be a resource to provide information about SAYSA club programs,
program schedules, player registration, coach resources, and for the
promotion of soccer to the residents of our service area. Clicking on the navigation
buttons in the left column will direct the user to various information
sections, such as "Player Registration" or "Coach Directory".
Who is
eligible to participate?
The club's charter
with Pa West indicates that the youth of the communities of the Shenango
Valley including Hermitage, Farrell, Sharon, and Sharpsville, as well as
their surrounding municipalities are the focus of the club's programs.
Players:
Our membership is not restricted to these communities however, and players
from neighboring Ohio communities as well as other nearby Pennsylvania
communities may participate in the club's programs. In general, our
player programs are offered to male and female players from the ages of 5 to
19.
Adults:
Any adult interested in soccer education as a
coach or referee is welcome to participate in our training programs, whether
or not they are affiliated with the club.
Recreational
player program:
Shenango Valley
Soccer is a recreational coed soccer program, open to 5 - 12 year old
players with an emphasis on:
-
promoting
soccer as a sport and culture that a family can participate in for life
-
learning soccer
skills and tactics through age appropriate training games
-
fun and fitness
-
family
participation
-
developing team
identity and co-operation
-
developing a
competitive spirit in a friendly, non-threatening environment

Pa West
Sunday Travel team programs:
Shenango Valley United is the club's
travel team program, open to boys and girls age 10 - 19. The club usually
hosts separate boy and girls teams at the U14, U16, and U19 levels in the Pa
West Lake District division 2, or 3. Some past teams have played up to Pa
West Div 1, which involves longer travel times. Our U12 teams can be
boys, girls, or coed, Div 2 or 3, depending on participation. The
travel team division helps prepare players ages 10 to 19 who are interested
in pursuing soccer at the high school level, or beyond. Whether the
player is an experienced teen or a beginner, up to date age appropriate
training methods will be experienced. Many of the area's most
knowledgeable coaches participate in our programs.
Click the "Travel Team"
button to the left for more information.
Coach and referee education:
As a comprehensive
soccer club we offer coach training through in-house sessions as well as coach
certification opportunities through our affiliation with Pa West. All active
club coaches
must have background checks on file with the board. Our members
ages 14 and up can also become FIFA certified referees through participation in
an extensive referee training program operated by Pa West. Some player
training activities have been downloaded to the "soccer lesson plan index" as
time has permitted. Adults are encouraged to check the web sites of Pa
West {www.pawest-soccer.org} or Ohio North {www.oysan.org} for lists of
scheduled training programs.
CHARTER
The soccer club is registered in
Pennsylvania as the nonprofit corporation Sharpsville Area Youth Soccer
Association (SAYSA) and registered with the IRS as a 501c3 charitable tax-exempt
corporation. We are a member of our state soccer association Pa West, the US Youth Soccer Association (USYSA), and the US Soccer Federation.
Therefore, our club's policies, constitution, and by-laws must adhere to
standards set by these organizations. The current club president maintains these
records with the club files.
(addendum January 2007) At the annual club membership meeting in June 2006
the membership approved a measure to modify the club constitution allowing the
club to advertise and do business as the "Shenango Area Youth Soccer
Association" for the purpose of better reflecting the makeup of our membership.
The corporate name "Sharpsville Area Youth Soccer Association" will be retained
for business, legal, and taxation purposes.
VOLUNTEERING
Without volunteers, there
is no club. If you love soccer and want to see it grow, you can help
promote the sport by giving some time to the kids. If you will give the club
your time, we will make sure you are properly trained for the role. Retirees,
parents, and older teens are all welcome to join in as a coach's helper, a
coach, referee, or helping with field maintenance or clerical work. Contact us to
volunteer -today! Send an email to: sec@saysa-pa.org.
How to
contact a board officer:
The preferred method is by an email
message. These can be sent to: sec@saysa-pa.org
The phone number voicemail (724-866-6100) is checked by a board
member weekly in the off season (October-January, June-July) and at least
2-3 days per week during the registration times and the playing seasons.
