TRAINER PROGRAM RENEWED FOR SPRING 2008 !!!

Andy Hoggarth-2008 trainer
(see Andy's resume below in the board section)

Gareth Vaughan-2007 trainer
Gareth spent 8 weeks training our players in the spring of 2007.
Gareth is from Wales, and has spent the past 3 years working as a
trainer in the Seattle area for British Challenger. He began training our Shenango
Valley United travel players the week of April 9, conducting weekly training
sessions with the u12 and u14 travel teams. He also directly worked with the u10 and u12 Shenango Valley Soccer rec teams
weekly as well as the rec program coaching staff. This is a unique
benefit to our SAYSA soccer families in the Shenango Valley.
Having a
professional trainer teach the players and coaches is not as
extravagant as it first appears, and is common practice in larger clubs,
even those as close as close as Youngstown! The presence of an experienced
trainer will have a significant impact on the development of our players,
especially between the ages of 9 - 14.
HISTORY:
At the annual club meeting in June 2006, the membership unanimously approved a measure
enabling the board to hire a professional soccer trainer to work with the
players and coaching staff for the spring 2007 season. After research,
the board negotiated a contract with British Challenger to recruit a
trainer, with at least a UEFA B license. The trainer will work with
our coaching staff and all players ages 9 - 14 to improve the training we
offer our players. British Challenger is
the largest camp and training organization in the US, and has provided
coaches for our summer camps the past two years. The trainer will be
working for the club from April 9 to June 3.
The concept of hiring a club trainer is common practice, even in soccer clubs as
close as Youngstown, Ohio. Many clubs have full time professional
trainers. Ages 9-14 are a time of critical growth for a young player.
The board was advised that this age group would receive the most benefit
from this service this session. The trainer will also help with teaching our
recreational and travel coaching staff. Providing this concept
continues, the impact will be tremendous in a few short years.
As part of this measure, the membership directed the board to develop a
revenue neutral means of paying for this service, with at least half of
the service to be paid for by fundraising.
2008: TRAINER PROGRAM TO CONTINUE
The board agreed to fund the trainer program through the spring session
of 2008 and spring 2009. Fee restructuring was presented to the
membership for approval at the annual club meeting June 9, 2007 and are
reflected in the 2007 player fees. It is expected that half of the
cost will be covered by increased fees and the other half by having each
family participate in a fundraising event each spring.
(modified Jan 2, 2008)
The next board meeting is Tuesday, June 6, 2008 at 8:00 pm at Mrs McGowan's home.
This will be an important work session to set the budget , fees, and policies
for the 08-09 soccer year. Club members and parents are invited to attend. Meetings are held on the
second Tuesday of each month.

Our Shenango Valley
UNITED u19 travel team finished fourth at the state championship tournaments.
The teams they were playing against were made of members of regional college
soccer teams. We had a brief moment of glory as we were the only team in the
tournament to score against last years state champion Beadling, and held them to
a 1-1 tie till the 40th minute of the (90 minute) match. The guys were outscored
19 - 2 over three games, but they'd do it again in a heartbeat. We left the
porch and played with the big dogs!
