*Volunteer background checks must be done every 2 years effective April 2005.

The state soccer association requires the club to keep background records on file for all volunteers. After receiving the reports, the club will reimburse volunteer coaches the cost of applying for these forms ($10 each).

#1) The Pa State Police criminal background check can now be done on line: https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp or the traditional method by mail.

This can be printed by opening this file: sp4-164.pdf -just print the form, complete it, have the report mailed to your home address, mail the request to the indicated address. When you receive the report, provide the club with a copy of the report.

#2) Also required is a Childline report, which can be printed by opening this file: DPWchildabuse.pdf. Instructions are available by opening: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Instructions. Follow the same process as with form #1.

ALL COACHES, ASSISTANT COACHES AND BOARD MEMBERS MUST HAVE BACKGROUND CHECKS DONE THROUGH ONE OF TWO PROCESSES.  EITHER ACT 33/34 (STATE POLICE/CHILD ABUSE REPORTS) OR THE KIDSAFE CLEARANCE.

The Pa West disclosure form no longer can be used as an alternate process, effective September 1, 2007.  The volunteer background checks above can be used (act 33/34 clearance), or a KIDSAFE clearance can be purchased from PA West.

To apply for a KIDSAFE clearance through  Pa West click the link to:

*Coach licensure and accreditation

Both the USSF and the NSCAA offer licensure programs for soccer coaches.  The programs in both tracks are tiered, beginning with youth levels and working up to the professional level. The programs consist of lectures, group discussions, field demonstrations, and an examination phase. Why consider accreditation/licensure?  As a small club we encourage, but do not require our volunteer coaches to work toward licensure.  Licensure is one way of showing the kids, the parents, and the community that you not only love soccer, but are but are proud of your role as a teacher of the young. It also shows that you care about learning about how to be a good teacher and stay up to date with training methods.  Beyond this, some larger clubs and many coaching jobs outside our area require a certain level of licensure to become a candidate.  For more information about licensure, go to the USYSA or NSCAA websites.
